It’s simple. You can find people in LinkedIn Groups. Looks for groups where you can find your ideal clients. After you have been active in the group for awhile, look for people to connect with.

The challenge that people sometimes face is that when people review their profile, it is lacking.

Your LinkedIn profile should be complete and it should be interesting. People will make a decision to connect with you on LinkedIn simply by looking at your profile.

So, what can you do to improve your LinkedIn profile?

Here are 8 tips to improve your profile:

  • Create a compelling headline
  • Include your contact information in multiple places
  • Add your past experience (you can be selective)
  • Add a summary section and move it to the top of the page
  • Add up to 50 skills that you people to endorse you on
  • Solicit recommendations
  • Join LinkedIn Groups
  • Offer advice on why people should contact you

The summary section is your opportunity to explain who you are and what you do. It’s like your 30 second elevator speech.

Everything you do to improve your LinkedIn profile will help you to connect with more people.

Be Proactive in Optimizing your LinkedIn Profile

And by the way, be proactive in working on yourself. Look for activities you can do that you can add to your profile.

Improve Linkedin ProfileFor example, if you take on a volunteer role in a non-profit organization, you can add that to your LinkedIn profile to show you are a well-rounded person.

And by the way, when you submit a request to connect with someone on LinkedIn, be sure to write a short, personal message to them.

Take a look at your LinkedIn profile from the viewpoint of an observer. What’s missing? Make a list of things to improve.

Spend time looking at other people’s profiles.

Ask someone to critique your LinkedIn profile and give you some feedback.

Publish Online VideosAre you creating videos?

If not, now is a great time to get started. Make this year the year of video for you.

Videos are a great way to create leverage.

I like videos because it’s a little like cloning yourself. Once you create a video, there is version of yourself out there on the internet sharing the same message over and over.

What message would you like to share with the world?

YouTube is a great site to post your videos and reach a new audience.

Even better than that though is the opportunity to share your videos in multiple places.

Here are some tips to leverage your online videos:

  • Share videos on Facebook
  • Tweet your videos on Twitter
  • Embed your videos on LinkedIn
  • Pin your videos on Pinterest
  • Email your videos

So, what does it take to create a video for YouTube?

Here are 3 quick tips to create a video:

1. Keep your videos short

I recommend you limit your videos to only 2-3 minutes.

2. Create an outline and a script

Determine exactly what to say in your video and practice it.

3. Strive for 1 take

You will accelerate the process to create and post your videos if you don’t have to edit them. So, record your video a few times and use the best one. If possible, record it in 1 take.

You don’t have to create a perfect video to get results. Do your best to record videos. You will improve over time.

Once you upload your video to YouTube, be sure to name the title of the video and add a description. Add tags which will improve SEO for your video. You can also do some simple editing to your video including adding annotations. That allows you to add text over the video. For example, you can include a website address.

All in all, online videos are a great way to share your message. Videos can be used to generate leads, invite people to events and set appointments. They can even be used to sell a product.

In order to leverage social media effectively, you need a game plan.

What is a game plan?

It is a written document which will guide your efforts on social media.

Here’s what you should include in your game plan:

  • 1. Your message
  • 2. How many posts to publish every day on each social media site
  • 3. What content to curate and share
  • 4. A strategy to generate leads
  • 5. Who to connect with on social media
  • 6. A list of influencers to communicate with and support
  • 7. Strategies to create written content, images and videos
  • 8. Your social media goals
  • 9. How many personal messages to send to contacts each week
  • 10. How to leverage social media (joint venture) partners

How long should your game plan be?

Limit your game plan to 2-3 pages to get started.

What is the timeframe for your game plan?

Set goals for the next 6-12 months.

Evaluate your game plan every quarter and tweak it.

Don’t make your game plan too complex or you won’t be able to accomplish it.
